About Zoanthid & Palythoa Colonies

“Zoas” or Zoanthid corals also known as Polythoa or “Palys” are a staple in any great reef tank. This is due to the range of colors and patterns and they are fairly easy to care for which makes them great for beginners and experts alike.

Generally, the flow rate that is ideal for Zoas and Polys is dependent on the size of the polyps. The smaller the polyp the slower the flow rate, the bigger the polyp the stronger the flow it can handle.

Some Zoas and Polys can be toxic. This is due to them containing a natural toxin that is called palytoxin which can be dangerous. So make sure that you are handling these corals properly and are using the proper gloves when moving them.
